Women in Diplomacy

Each chapter contains a theoretical and practical part for the easiest possible integration into the teaching process. The publication is intended for teachers, young people, policymakers, the expert community, and anyone who wants to advocate for the support of gender equality, inclusion, and diversity, not only in diplomacy. The textbook is used by students at the University of Economics in Bratislava, Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, and P.J. Šafárik University in Košice to teach the subject Women in Diplomacy. The subject brings Slovak universities the opportunity to systematically examine diplomacy and foreign policy through gender lenses. The created materials and documents offer theoretical foundations and starting points, but also practical exercises for the most effective implementation during classes. The content created is practical, with concrete recommendations on how to advocate for gender equality, inclusion, and diversity for everyone at the individual, collective and societal levels. The methodology integrates elements of global education that support active learning and reflection and uses participatory educational practices. We believe that the subject will inspire young people to stand up for equal opportunities for all without distinction. Graduates of the course will thus become a driving force for positive changes in society in the future, not only at the level of diplomacy and foreign policy.

The textbook also includes Katarína Strýčková’s interview with Magda Vášáryová, former ambassador and the first woman to hold the position of state secretary, which was published in the book “V Ženskom rode”. We believe that she will inspire a new generation of diplomats.
